Report: Lakers' LeBron Out At Least 1 More Week with Injury After 1st On-Court Workout

Julia StumbaughMar 16, 2025

LeBron James is taking steps toward returning, but he will reportedly miss at least one more week.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday that the King worked out on the court for the first time since he suffered his groin injury. However, Charania also noted "he is expected, though, to miss at least another week. His exact return will be based on how his body responds to increased activity here in the coming days and coming week."

James originally suffered what the Lakers identified as a left groin strain during a March 8 loss to the Boston Celtics.

He told reporters after the game he had "maybe extended it a little bit too much" when attempting to move past Celtics guard Jaylen Brown on a scoring attempt late in the fourth quarter.

Charania reported the following day that James was expected to miss "at least one to two weeks" with the injury.

James returned to Los Angeles in the middle of a Lakers road trip as part of a "medical recommendation" on March 12, according to Charania.

Charania noted at the time that James was continued to "progress well" from the injury.

The Lakers star has dealt with significant groin injuries in the past, including a left groin tear that sidelined him for 17 games of the 2018-19 season.

James was averaging 25.0 points and 8.2 rebounds while putting up a team-high 8.5 assists through 58 games prior to his injury.

Getting James back as soon as possible will be critical as the Lakers attempt to secure a top-four Western Conference playoff seed despite injuries that have impacted key starters including Luka Dončić, Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes over the final third of the regular season.
