Luka Doncic Uncertain for Lakers vs. Nuggets amid Injury: 'We’ll See On That One'

Andrew PetersMar 13, 2025

Luka Dončić's status for Friday's matchup against the Denver Nuggets is up in the air as the Los Angeles Lakers star looks to get to 100 percent before the playoffs.

Per ESPN's Dave McMenamin, Dončić said he was unsure if he would be ready to go for Friday's matchup after taking on the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. He was listed as questionable for Thursday's game because of ankle soreness.

“We’ll see. We’ll see on that one," Dončić said regarding the contest against the Nuggets.

The uncertainty regarding Dončić's status comes after the star posted the best game of his Lakers' tenure so far. Though Los Angeles came up short against Milwaukee on Thursday, Dončić matched his season high with 45 points and added 11 boards.

Upon his arrival, Dončić took a while to get things going as he returned from a calf injury. He put up 21 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists through his first seven games but has averaged 32 points, 8.6 rebounds and nine assists per game in March.

While the Lakers likely won't push Dončić to play if he doesn't feel up for it, they could use their new star since LeBron James will likely still be out for Friday's contest.

James suffered a groin injury against the Boston Celtics last week and is considered day-to-day, head coach JJ Redick said Thursday. James left the Lakers current road trip and returned to Los Angeles earlier this week to focus on coming back from the injury.

It's unclear how close James is to a return, but ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday that he was looking at a timeline of one-to-two weeks. Los Angeles hasn't fared well without James, losing three straight.

Still, the Lakers remain in playoff position, sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference at 40-24. Denver sits just ahead of the Lakers in third place, so Friday's contest will have extra importance.

Los Angeles will hope to have Dončić on the court for such a critical game.
