Report: Bill Belichick Asked UNC Communications Staff to Include Girlfriend on Emails
Bill Belichick made an unusual request ahead of his first season as North Carolina's football coach.
The legendary former New England Patriots coach asked that his 24-year-old girlfriend be copied on certain emails sent to him, according to TheAssemblyNC.com's Matt Hartman, who obtained emails from Belichick to North Carolina officials (h/t Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio).
On the surface, it's a very strange request, but Hartman reported that Belichick asked that his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, be looped into emails regarding social media and web content. Unless the 72-year-old Belichick has developed an affinity for social media in recent years, it seems understandable that he would prefer to let his much younger girlfriend handle that kind of thing.
Hartman added that Belichick asked for Hudson to be copied on emails regarding interview requests, so she might be serving in some kind of public relations role specifically for Belichick.
As Belichick has likely learned already, the college football landscape is much different than what he's used to in the NFL, and it could be beneficial to have someone close to the same age as his players and those he's recruiting handle his social media postings.
It's an atypical move as most college football programs have social media and communication teams that handle such matters, but Belichick is not your average coach.
Now that Belichick has his girlfriend ensuring his social media is up to date, he'll shift his focus toward the season ahead.
Belichick will step into a college football coaching role for the first time in his career and will be tasked with trying to turn things around in Chapel Hill as well as manage the recruiting trail.
It will be interesting to see how the six-time Super Bowl winner fares at the collegiate level.
