SGA, Thunder Beat Jayson Tatum, Celtics to Excite Fans in Possible NBA Finals Preview
Two of the best teams in the NBA squared off Wednesday night in what could be a Finals preview.
The Oklahoma City Thunder downed the reigning champion Boston Celtics at TD Garden 118-112.
It was a battle of the stars as MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped 34 points, seven assists and five rebounds while Jayson Tatum put up 33 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander's logo was displayed around the city of Boston:
Gilgeous-Alexander's supporting cast also came to play as Chet Holmgren posted 23 points and 15 rebounds while five other Thunder players were in double digits.
Tatum's co-star, Finals MVP Jaylen Brown struggled for most of the night, finishing with just 10 points on 5-of-15 from the field and fouling out with just over three minutes to play.
After the win for Oklahoma City, fans hyped a potential Finals matchup between the Thunder and Celtics.
The Thunder have been the best team in the West all year and they're sitting at the top of the conference at 54-12. The Celtics have had to overcome a few rough patches this season, but are still sitting comfortably in second place in the East at 47-19.
For Oklahoma City to get to the Finals, it would need to get through tough teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets. Boston would have to get out of the East over the Cleveland Cavaliers and other top squads.
Only time will tell if the two teams will meet again in the Finals, but Wednesday's game indicates that a potential matchup would be a good one.
