Julia StumbaughMar 11, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly set to make All-Pro wide receiver and return specialist KaVontae Turpin the highest-paid special team player in the NFL.

The Cowboys are finalizing a three-year, $18 million contract for Turpin, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Jane Slater.

The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins previously reported the Cowboys planned to use a $5.34 million second-round tender on Turpin as a restricted free agent.

According to Watkins, the Cowboys planned to use that tender only "if a deal couldn't be reached."

Turpin received first team All-Pro honors in 2024 after pacing the league with 904 kickoff return yards on 27 returns, while tying six other players for the NFL lead with two non-offensive touchdowns.

Turpin joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2022 after a breakout USFL campaign. He earned Pro Bowl honors during his first NFL season after ranking fifth in the NFL with 10.4 yards per punt return.

Re-signing Turpin is the latest step the Cowboys have taken toward bringing back the team's 2024 special teams corps, including re-signing C.J. Goodwin and Markquese Bell.

The Cowboys also inked Trent Sieg to a three-year, $4.45 million deal that will make him one of the highest-paid long snappers in the NFL, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Over the Cap.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris reported after the Sieg signing that "keeping consistency going for Brandon Aubrey is a big priority for Dallas" after losing former special teams coordinator John Fassel to the Tennessee Titans.

The Cowboys' next special teams decision will concern punter Bryan Anger, who is currently set to hit unrestricted free agency on Wednesday. Watkins previously reported the Cowboys want to bring Anger back for next season.

The Cowboys' special teams corps will be led in 2025 by Nick Sorensen, who will replace Fassel on Brian Schottenheimer's staff this season. He most recently served as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, and previously served as special teams coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
