Kevin Durant Rumors: Suns Eye 3 1st-Round Picks and Young Player in Trade for Star

Timothy RappMar 10, 2025

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly set a price point when they inevitably trade Kevin Durant over the summer.

According to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic, "Sources [have said] the most ideal return on a Durant trade is regaining three first-round picks and a young player as part of a multi-team deal tied to getting under the second apron."

The Suns' decision to pair Durant with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal has flopped, hard. The team is just 30-34 this season and is, outside of perhaps only the Philadelphia 76ers, the biggest disappointment of the 2024-25 NBA season.

That follows the team's failure to advance past the first round of the playoffs last season.

Obviously, moving Beal rather than Durant would be more ideal for the Suns, but his massive contract and no-trade clause have ostensibly made that impossible, or close to impossible. And Booker, the face of the franchise, isn't going anywhere.

So if the Suns are going to shake things up, Durant is the logical player to go. It feels like a foregone conclusion—bridges between him and the organization may have been permanently burnt when they put him on the trade block ahead of February's deadline, with Rankin noting that "Durant's camp was upset" by those trade talks.

"It's part of the business," Durant said regarding his name popping up in trade talks. "Everybody is bought and sold in this league. Anybody can be up for auction."

Durant may not have taken it personally, but it doesn't mean he was thrilled with the decision behind closed doors.

Some other team is likely to benefit. While Durant is 36, he's still averaging 26.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He can still produce at a high level, though questions about how much longer he can do so—alongside the fact that he's only under contract for one more season—may limit his trade value.

In other words, whether a team is willing to part ways with three first-round picks and a young player in exchange for his services remains to be seen.
