Luka Doncic Rumors: Lakers Star Has Felt 'Appreciative' of How LA Has Provided Support

Julia StumbaughMar 8, 2025

ESPN's Shams Charania says Luka Dončić has felt supported by the Los Angeles Lakers in the month since his trade from the Dallas Mavericks.

According to Charania, Dončić moved into his new Los Angeles house "a few days ago."

"He's feeling more and more comfortable with every passing day," Charania said on Saturday night's NBA Countdown.

Charania continued: "The most important thing for Luka Dončić has been what he's told people around him... which is that he's felt more and more appreciative and comfortable with how the Lakers have surrounded him with support, with inclusion in the process of everything."

Dončić is playing in the 11th game of his Lakers career Saturday night against the Boston Celtics.

This is not the first time Charania has shared reports of Dončić's positive impression of the Lakers through one month with the franchise.

"He had no intention of ever leaving Dallas... he did not want to go anywhere," Charania said in a Tuesday appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. "You think of a player coming from abroad. They're very committed. They're loyal. And that's how he viewed himself with the Mavericks: it's like one team, one city, forever.

"And I think that's gonna carry over to the Lakers. I think he's loving his time in L.A."

Dončić is currently signed through next season with a player option for 2026-27, but The Athletic's Jovan Buha recently reported the Lakers are "doing everything in their power to get him to extend or re-sign, depending on how he wants to structure his next contract."

He could sign a four-year, $228 million with the Lakers this summer or seek a five-year, $296 million deal in 2026, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Whenever Dončić decides to ink his next contract, Charania's reports are an early and positive indication he may consider signing in Los Angeles.

Since Dončić made his Feb. 10 debut with his new team, the Lakers have climbed into the No. 2 spot in the West with a 9-2 record. Los Angeles will now hope to further entice Dončić to sign an extension with a deep playoff run this spring.
