NBA News: P.J. Tucker, Knicks Reportedly Agree to 10-Day Contract

The New York Knicks signed veteran forward P.J. Tucker to a 10-day contract on Saturday, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Charania noted that Tucker held discussions with "multiple teams" throughout the "past week" before joining the Knicks.

The 39-year-old opened the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Clippers but was traded multiple times, eventually landing on the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors waived him on Feb. 28.

SNY's Ian Begley reported that the Knicks view Tucker as an "integral addition" to their locker room and wanted someone "with an enforcer mentality" as well as "championship experience."

Tucker hasn't suited up in a game this season. His last appearance came in May 2024 with Los Angeles during the first round of the playoffs.

In 31 combined games with the Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers during his 2023-24 campaign, Tucker averaged 1.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game while shooting 36 percent from the field.

Tucker has shown to be a capable defender, strong veteran leader and spot-up shooter, making playoff appearances with six separate teams since the 2016-17 season.

The veteran won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

He's been particularly adept at shooting corner threes, owning a career three-point percentage of 38.4 percent from the corners (via Basketball Reference).

While Tucker likely won't have a large role in New York's rotation as it gears up for the playoffs, he could operate as a depth piece after rookie center Ariel Hukporti suffered a torn meniscus on Feb. 26.

The Knicks currently sit at No. 3 in the Eastern Conference standings with a 40-23 record, but they've suffered three consecutive defeats. They also lost star point guard Jalen Brunson to a sprained ankle on Thursday, as he's expected to miss at least two weeks.

With New York attempting to close out the regular season on a high note, it added Tucker on a 10-day deal.
