Report: Harold Landry, Patriots Agree to $43.5M Contract in NFL FA After Titans Exit

Adam WellsMar 9, 2025

The New England Patriots are hoping Harold Landry can boost their pass-rush for the 2025 season.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Landry agreed to a 3-year, $43.5 million contract with the Patriots on Sunday. The deal includes $26 million guaranteed.

Landry became a free agent for the first time in his career this offseason. He was released by the Tennessee Titans on March 7 that will save them at least $10.9 million in cap space.

The Titans gave Landry permission to seek a trade earlier in the week, but they made the move to release him when no deal materialized.

At the peak of his career, Landry was an impact pass-rusher. His best season came in 2021 when he recorded 12 sacks for a Titans team that finished as the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Tennessee rewarded Landry with a five-year, $87.5 million extension in March 2022. His season ended prematurely due to a torn ACL suffered in a preseason practice.

Landry remained an effective player even after the knee injury. He is tied for 11th in tackles for loss (29) and tied for 19th in sacks (19.5) among all defensive players since the start of the 2023 season.

On top of his performance, Landry has remained extremely durable. He has appeared in all 34 games over the past two seasons. The 2022 campaign is the only time he has missed any games in the previous six years.

Landry's down-to-down effectiveness has taken a hit a since the injury. He ranked last in Pro Football Focus' pass-rush win rate and had a seven percent pressure rate in 2024.

Using ESPN's pass-rush win rate metrics for comparison, the top 10 edge-rushers last season had a success rate between 20 to 26 percent.

One potential solution to maximize Landry going forward is utilize him in pass-rush-only situations. This would seem counterintuitive based on his stats, but let him maintain as much stamina and power as possible by not having to worry about stopping the run to see what's in the tank.

Another thing that is likely to help Landry be more effective on a snap-to-snap basis is the Patriots don't need him to be the No. 1 pass-rusher for the defense like the Titans did last season.

As a buy-low pass-rushing option, the Patriots could end up getting a bargain from Landry in 2025. He will only be 29 years old when the season begins.
