Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
The Bengals placed the tag on Higgins on Tuesday, which prevents him from hitting unrestricted free agency. The team is reportedly trying to come to terms on a long-term deal with Higgins and fellow wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.
If they cannot come to an agreement, Higgins will play for $26.1 million in 2025. He is eligible to be tagged a total of three times.
Higgins had 73 catches for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024. Higgins and Chase represent a dynamic duo for quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals' potent offense. Cincinnati went 9-8 in 2024 and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The Bengals have parted ways with several players and have allowed star pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson to seek a trade. A Hendrickson trade should free up cap space to extend Higgins and Chase, although it will likely trigger some depth issues for the roster.
While the Higgins family may be frustrated with the lack of a long-term deal, the tag has been placed and he may be back in Cincinnati for at least one more season.
