Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns Out vs. Warriors Due to Personal Reasons; TBD for Road Trip

Andrew PetersMar 4, 2025

The New York Knicks will be without their star big man for at least one game.

Per ESPN's Tim Bontemps, Karl-Anthony Towns won't play against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday due to personal reasons. According to Bontemps, head coach Tom Thibodeau said he wasn't sure if Towns would be with the Knicks for an upcoming five-game road trip, but New York will be "excited" to have him back upon his return.

Thibodeau added that Towns "needs some time and when he's ready to come back, he'll come back," per The New York Daily News' Kristian Winfield.

Towns, an offseason addition for the Knicks, is having one of the best seasons of his career, putting up 24.5 points and 13.4 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from deep.

Towns has managed to stay on the floor for most of the year, missing just six games so far. The Knicks have gone 3-3 in the games he's missed.

The Knicks have a tough stretch ahead, facing the Warriors on Tuesday before seeing the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Warriors again during their roadtrip.

Luckily for New York, a great first half of the season means the Knicks are sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference at 40-20 and should stay afloat if Towns has to miss significant time.

With Towns out, New York will lean on star point guard Jalen Brunson agains the Warriors and potentially on the upcoming road trip. Brunson is putting up 26.1 points and 7.4 assists per game this year.

The Knicks will likely turn to Mitchell Robinson to start at center in Towns' place. Robinson made his season debut in late February after missing the first part of the season rehabbing an ankle procedure.

Robinson, playing just 13 minutes per game, has put up 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in his first two appearances of the season.
