James turned 40 in December. Two months later, he averaged 29.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while working with trade acquisition Luka Dončić to lead the Lakers to a 10-2 February record.
That stretch included multiple record-breaking performances from James.
On Feb. 1, hours before news of the Dončić trade broke, James posted a triple-double in a road win over the New York Knicks.
The outing made him the first visitor since Oscar Robertson in 1965 to post at least 33 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds at Madison Square Garden, according to the Associated Press.
James also reached 40 points twice over the stretch, including Feb. 6 against the Golden State Warriors and Feb. 20 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The win over the Blazers made James the first 40-year-old in NBA history to hit the 40-point threshold more than once.
James won his first Player of the Month award at age 19. He opened the first month of his second NBA campaign by averaging 26.3 points and 7.8 rebounds while leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 9-5 record in November 2004.
Before James, the oldest player to win a Player of the Month Award was 37-year-old Karl Malone, who claimed the award with the Utah Jazz in November 2000.
In addition to setting the age record, the Lakers star also holds the all-time NBA record with 41 career Player of the Month awards. He has won three with the Lakers, most recently claiming the honor in February 2020 months before leading his team to a championship.
