Bradley Beal Trade Rumors: Wizards Gave 'Legitimate' Thought to Reunion With Suns SG

Taylyn Hadley Mar 2, 2025

The Washington Wizards gave the concept of a reunion with shooting guard Bradley Beal some "legitimate contemplation," according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Whether Beal would have "blessed" the idea of the trade going through is up in the air, however, as the 31-year-old remains steady with the Phoenix Suns.

Beal was drafted to the Wizards with the No. 3 pick in the 2012 draft. In 11 seasons with the Wizards, Beal averaged 22.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists.

While it is unknown whether Beal would have approved of a return to Washington, he has made it clear that he feels no ill-will towards the city that raised him.

In his return to Washington last season, where the Suns defeated the Wizards 140-112 behind Beal's 43 points, he expressed high praise for the city.

"Tonight was awesome," Beal said, per the Associated Press. "To be back in the city that has helped me grow as a man, drafted me on my 19th birthday. ... A lot of good memories, man, and that tribute video was awesome."

The Suns landed Beal ahead of the 2023 season, along with Jordan Goodwin and Isaiah Todd, in exchange for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, Bilal Coulibaly (the No. 7 pick via the Indiana Pacers), and several draft picks.

This year's incredible NBA trade deadline saw 63 players moved, including eight All-Stars. Despite heavy attempts to move Beal as the Suns were desperate to acquire Jimmy Butler, they were unable to due to big contracts, second-apron restrictions and Beal's no-trade clause.

According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst, only two teams were willing to take on Beal's contract: the Wizards and the Atlanta Hawks.

With the Heat's patience wearing thin, Butler ultimately went to the Golden State Warriors and Beal remained in Phoenix.

While Beal managed to avoid a trade during this season's trade deadline, the Suns did move big man Jusuf Nurkic and a 2026 first-round draft pick in return for Cody Martin, Vasilije Micić, and a 2026 second-round pick.
