NFL Rumors: Micah Parsons, Cowboys Begin Contract Extension Talks Ahead of 2025 Draft
The Dallas Cowboys have started negotiating a contract extension with star pass-rusher Micah Parsons as the 2025 NFL draft approaches, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News.
"Those conversations are described as general, just the beginning of the process between the two sides," Watkins wrote.
Parsons is still on his rookie contract and is set to carry a $24 million cap hit for the 2025 season after Dallas picked up his fifth-year option in April 2024.

He's currently set to enter free agency at the end of the 2025 season.
Parsons recently sat down with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to "lay the groundwork" for a new contract extension, perย Patrik Walkerย of the team's official website.
"There's definitely a plan in place, but we'll just see how everything plays out," Parsons said on Feb. 13, via Walker. "There's been no progress yet, but I'm pretty confident that something will happen, so we'll see."
ESPN'sย Dan Grazianoย predicted that Parsons would receive a four-year extension worth $180 million.
The $45 million average annual value would make him the highest-paid edge-rusher in the NFL, surpassing San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa's $34 million per year (viaย Spotrac).
Parsons has established himself as one of the league's top defensive players, routinely wrecking havoc in opposing backfields and recording at least 12 sacks in all four years of his career.
During the 25-year-old's 2024 campaign, he racked up 43 tackles, 46 pressures, 12 sacks and two forced fumbles. His 23 percent pass-rush win rate ranked No. 3 among all edge-rushers last season, perย ESPN.
As the Cowboys and Parsons attempt to secure his long-term future in Dallas, extension discussions are reportedly underway.
