Warriors' Stephen Curry Predicts Dunk vs. 76ers Will Be The Last Of His NBA Career
Don't expect to see Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry elevating and throwing it down again after he delivered a rare slam dunk in Saturday's 126-119 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The two-time MVP rose up in the fourth quarter and had his first jam in an NBA game since 2019.
"That will probably be my last dunk," he told reporters after the game. "I'm calling it right now. That was the last one you're going to see."
Displaying an impressive recall ability, Curry said he remembered his 2019 effort, accurately describing how he was standing in the right corner and made a back cut to finish off an assist from Kevin Durant.
The 36-year-old used to get up a little more when he was younger, but it has never been a big facet of his game.
"I had no problem letting that part of myself go," he said to The Athletic's Tim Cato in December 2023. "I very easily moved on to the next chapter of my career."
Cato detailed the physical cost of simply dunking the ball, which can often catch up to players before they realize it. And getting above the rim is often not the problem; it's the coming down. Landing on a hardwood floor isn't great for your knees, even when you do it perfectly.
Curry's dunk Saturday wasn't exactly emphatic, yet he said, "It took everything out of me to get up there."
So hopefully NBA fans understood the history they were witnessing at Wells Fargo Center.
