Micronesia Finish Pacific Games with 46-0 Defeat and -114 Goal Difference

It is fair to say the football tournament at the Pacific Games did not go to plan for Micronesia. 

The team started the tournament in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, with a 30-0 defeat to Tahiti and things only got worse from there. 

Next came a 38-0 defeat to Fiji and then, on Tuesday, their tournament concluded with a 46-0 loss to Vanuatu.

The one saving grace for Micronesia is the fact they won't enter the record books. 

As noted by the BBC:

Micronesia will escape their place in the record books as they are not affiliated to world football's governing body Fifa, and the squads at the Pacific Games are Under-23s because it doubles as Olympic qualifying.

The official world record remains Australia's 31-0 win over American Samoa in a World Cup qualifier back in 2001.
