NFL Rumors: Titans' No. 1 Draft Pick Drawing 'Real' Trade Interest; Cam Ward Linked

Mike ChiariMar 1, 2025

Multiple teams are reportedly intrigued by the idea of trading up to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Speaking Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said there is "for sure real interest from several teams" in acquiring the No. 1 overall selection:

The Tennessee Titans currently own that pick, and Rapoport noted that they need more time before deciding whether to stand pat or trade down.

Rapoport added that most talent evaluators he has spoken with believe Miami's Cam Ward will be the first quarterback taken in the draft, so if a team trades up to the No. 1 spot, it could be with an eye toward taking Ward.

After going 3-14 last season, the Titans have a ton of holes to fill, and quarterback may be among them.

Will Levis and Mason Rudolph combined to start all 17 games at quarterback last season, and they didn't fare particularly well, collectively throwing for 3,317 yards, 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

Despite their quarterback struggles last season, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported this week that the Titans "still want to make things work" with Levis if possible.

If the Titans truly do want to stick with Levis, trading down with a quarterback-needy team would be a sensible move, as it would allow Tennessee to address a different position while also piling up more draft picks.

The Cleveland Browns (No. 2 overall), New York Giants (No. 3 overall), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6 overall) and New York Jets (No. 7 overall), all need a quarterback, making them candidates to trade up for Ward.

In 2023, the Chicago Bears traded down from No. 1 overall with the Carolina Panthers, who had the No. 9 overall pick. In exchange, Chicago received wide receiver D.J. Moore and a bevy of picks, including one that turned out to be the No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 draft.

That type of move could be hugely beneficial for the Titans, especially due to the possibility of highly touted Texas quarterback Arch Manning entering the 2026 NFL draft.

Russini reported Saturday that the Giants are "a team to watch" in terms of trying to get a quarterback in the 2025 NFL draft and potentially trading up to the No. 1 spot.

Moving down from No. 1 to No. 3 would be a great move for the Titans since it would still allow them to get one of the other elite talents in the draft, such as Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.

This year's draft is not viewed as being as ripe with quarterback talent as last year's when quarterbacks were taken with the top three picks and six of the first 12.

Because of that, teams may have a sense of urgency to move up for Ward, and that could work to the Titans' advantage.
