Report: Lakers' Austin Reaves Day-to-Day; MRI Didn't Reveal Serious Calf Injury
Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves will be day-to-day after an MRI on his calf revealed "no serious injury," according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Head coach JJ Redick told reporters Reaves was suffering from calf soreness after he left Friday's win over the Los Angeles Clippers early. He logged just nine minutes and remained out for precautionary reasons.
Reaves hit a pair of three-pointers during his limited action, finishing with six points and one block.
LeBron James and Luka Dončić powered Los Angeles to victory. Luka Dončić scored a game-high 31 points, while James dropped a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds.
The calf injury is poorly timed for Reaves because he's coming off an excellent February. Across 12 games last month, he averaged 22.0 points on 45.1 percent shooting along with 5.6 assists. Friday broke four-game scoring streak of at least 20 points.
Depth isn't a strength for the Lakers even when everyone on the roster is healthy. Now, they could have Reaves sidelined briefly forward Rui Hachimura is out indefinitely. Redick confirmed Hachimura is suffering from patellar tendinopathy in his left knee and will be re-evaluated in a week.
Guard Gabe Vincent came off the bench to play 26 minutes against the Clippers. Guard Jordan Goodwin and rookie wing Dalton Knecht were on the floor for 21 and 18 minutes, respectively.
If Reaves is forced to miss any time, then those three will likely have to shoulder a heavier burden.
Los Angeles has a day off before its rematch with the Clippers on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
