Luka Doncic's Revenge Game with Lakers vs. Mavs Draws Record 2.9M Viewers
Los Angeles Lakers superstar guard Luka Dončić's revenge game on Tuesday against his ex-team, the Dallas Mavericks, drew 2.5 million average viewers across TNT, truTV and Max, with a peak of 2.9 million viewers.
It also marked the NBA's most watched regular-season cable telecast for the 2024-25 campaign (outside of opening night).
The Lakers' 107-99 win featured Dončić posting a 19-point, 15-rebound, 12-assist triple-double.
It's no surprise that fans wanted to see Dončić play the Mavericks.
On Feb. 1, Dallas orchestrated arguably the most stunning trade in NBA history, sending the 25-year-old and five-time All-NBA First Teamer to the Mavs for a package that notably included Anthony Davis.
Dončić had just led Dallas to the NBA Finals the year before and presumably would be in town for years to come to try to lead the Mavs back, but the team apparently had other plans.
Now Dončić has teamed up with LeBron James on a 35-21 Lakers squad that's gone 15-4 in its last 19 games. L.A. looks like a potential NBA championship team, especially after a phenomenal road effort at the Denver Nuggets in a 123-100 win last Saturday.
So the Lakers should be a draw against any team, including the Mavs, but naturally, Tuesday's game brought some more attention giving the seismic trade.
