NFL News: Harold Landry Reportedly Released by Titans amid Trade Rumors
After receiving permission from the Tennessee Titans to seek a trade earlier this offseason, former Pro Bowl linebacker Harold Landry III is now free to find a new home.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Titans will release Landry on Friday. Landry was set to make a base salary of $17.5 million in each of the next two seasons, but none of the remaining money on his contract was guaranteed.
While Landry is one of the premier pass-rushers in the NFL, the Titans own the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft and are believed to be considering Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, who is widely regarded as the top overall prospect in this year's class.
Landry started all 17 games for Tennessee in 2024 and led the team with nine sacks while also contributing 71 total tackles, 18 quarterback pressures and four passes defended. It was the fourth time in his career that he finished the year with at least nine sacks, pushing his career total to 50.5 since entering the league as a second-round draft pick in 2018.
The 28-year-old earned his lone Pro Bowl selection in 2021 after producing career highs of 74 total tackles and 12 sacks. The Titans rewarded him with a five-year, $87.5 million extension with $52.5 million guaranteed following that season, but he was forced to miss the entire 2022 campaign after tearing his ACL that September.
After playing all 17 games in each of the last two years, Landry appears to be back to his old self. He should be a consistent contributor for his next team as he seeks his first career trip to the Super Bowl.
