76ers' Eric Gordon to Undergo Surgery on Right Wrist Injury

Scott PolacekFeb 25, 2025

Philadelphia 76ers guard Eric Gordon has not played since Feb. 9, and his eventual return to the court will now be further delayed.

The 76ers revealed Tuesday that Gordon will undergo surgery on his right wrist Wednesday, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype noted the decision to undergo surgery came after the guard met with "several specialists," while Adam Aaronson of PhillyVoice reported there is no official timeline for return at the moment.

Gordon signed with the 76ers ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, and his time with the team has not gone according to plan thanks to his health concerns.

He has appeared in 39 of the team's 57 games, as injuries have been a constant theme for the 76ers. That is more games than Joel Embiid (19), Paul George (38), Kyle Lowry (33), Andre Drummond (33) and Jared McCain (23), among others.

Those injuries have prevented Philadelphia from living up to expectations as an Eastern Conference contender, as it is in 12th place in the standings at 20-37 and 2.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls for the final spot in the play-in tournament.

Gordon was a secondary contributor prior to the setback and averaged 6.8 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds in his 39 games while shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from deep.

That outside shooting figured to play well alongside Embiid and George given the additional defensive attention the two stars draw, but they have not been on the court enough to fully take advantage of the dynamic.

The Indiana product has been something of a journeyman throughout his NBA career and has played for the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns and 76ers. At his best, he was the Sixth Man of the Year in 2016-17 for the Rockets and someone who consistently scored in double figures.

He hasn't had a full chance to be that version of himself for the 76ers, and it is now up in the air whether he will return to the court this season.
