Video: Donovan Mitchell Talks Scuffle with Desmond Bane and Cavs' Legacy After LeBron

Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell thought his tussle with the Memphis Grizzles' Desmond Bane reflected the "playoff atmosphere" in Cleveland's 129-123 win Sunday.

In the third quarter, Mitchell and Bane were jostling for the ball in a tie-up. They continued fighting for possession even after the Cavs received a timeout, and things escalated from there.

Addressing the situation on SportsCenter after the game, Mitchell said it just showed how competitive he and Bane are.

"How I was brought up, if there's a tussle you don't let go of the ball," he said. "I had nothing wrong with it. I was laughing. You know, it's over with. I think the biggest thing is it's playoff basketball, playoff atmosphere. I think it was great. It was competitive. It was a vibe, to be honest."

The Cavaliers improved to 47-10 with the win. They have a six-game lead on the Boston Celtics for first place in the Eastern Conference, and they're on pace to have the most wins in franchise history.

Asked about a "new legacy" for the organization after the LeBron James era, Mitchell said it's important to be "ready to create your own lane."

"Obviously, yeah, we want to hang banner No. 2 here in Cleveland," he said. "But for us, it's different, we're doing it our way. I think for us it's just continuing to go out there on a night-to-night basis playing as a group and getting better."

Until a team actually wins a championship, it always faces questions about whether it can get over the top. In the case of the Cavs, it doesn't help that they've only gone as far as the conference semifinals with their current core.

Cleveland would probably be an underdog if matched up in a seven-game series with the Celtics.

Still, Kenny Atkinson's squad has done everything it can in the regular season to show it's a serious threat to the reigning champions.
