Report: Kevin Garnett Would Join Timberwolves Front Office After Sale to A-Rod, Lore

Andrew PetersFeb 23, 2025

A Minnesota Timberwolves legend could join the team after its sale to Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore.

Per Charley Walters of The Pioneer Press, Kevin Garnett is expected to be a member of the Timberwolves front office following the sale.

“A little birdie says Kevin Garnett will become part of the Timberwolves’ front office as soon as it’s official that Lore and Rodriguez get ownership," Walters wrote.

Garnett, a Hall of Famer, spent the first 12 years of his career with the Timberwolves, winning an MVP in 2004 when he put up 24.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game. He also led the team to its first Western Conference Finals appearance in 2004, which stood as Minnesota's only appearance in the conference finals until 2024.

He returned to Minnesota in 2014 and retired with the Timberwolves in 2016.

Earlier this month, arbitrators ruled in favor of Rodriguez and Lore in their legal battle to become majority owners of the Timberwolves. While they got one step closer to owning the franchise, they'll still need the NBA's approval to make it official.

"We are extremely pleased with today's decision," Lore and Rodriguez said in a statement. "We look forward to working with the NBA to complete the approval process and close this transaction so that we can turn our attention to winning championships in Minnesota for our incredible fans and the Twin Cities community."

With the new ownership will come plenty of changes, and it appears one of those changes will include bringing back the franchise's greatest player.

The change in ownership comes during Minnesota's best stretch since Garnett was playing. The Timberwolves have made three consecutive playoffs and reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 20 years last season.

Minnesota will look to continue its upward trend with Garnett in the front office.
