Video: LeBron's Powerboat Racing Impact Hyped by Driver; Rafael Nadal Raced Will Smith

Scott PolacekFeb 23, 2025

Anyone who wants to see LeBron James try his hand at powerboat racing might get their wish one day.

The King launched an E1 Series powerboat racing team this year, and Rusty Wyatt—who is one of the two drivers on James' team alongside Catie Munnings—said there is precedent in place for celebrities trying their hand at the sport when asked by TMZ Sports if he is going to get the four-time NBA champion on the water.

"Will Smith and Rafael Nadal, they actually raced one of these boats," Wyatt said (2:50 mark). "… So, yeah, you never know."

TMZ Sports noted James joined names such as Tom Brady and Smith for the E1 all-electric powerboat racing series for the 2025 season, and Wyatt believes that will help bring in a brand new audience.

"Anything LeBron does, people are gonna follow," he said (1:40 mark). "He's such an icon to so many different people."

Bill Springer of Forbes reported on James' involvement in January and noted he built a strong team with Wyatt and Munnings.

Munnings notched three podium places in E1's debut season and became the United Kingdom's first female Red Bull motorsports athlete. What's more, she is a previous FIA European Rally Championship Ladies' Trophy winner.

As for Wyatt, he was the Rookie of the Year at the F1H20 UIM World Championship in 2024.

"As a lifelong fan of sports and competition, the opportunity to own an E1 team that represents such a high level of innovation in sports is incredibly exciting," James said, per Springer. "E1 is a new type of global competition that's revolutionizing water racing and I'm proud to be at the forefront of its expansion in season two."

Wyatt said he hasn't met the future Hall of Famer yet but hopes he's in attendance for a race in Miami later this season.
