Video: Lakers' LeBron Compares Luka Doncic Connection to QB-WR Duo, 'Fits Perfectly'

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is savoring the complementary partnership he's forging with teammate Luka Dončić as the five-time All-Star grows increasingly familiar with his new surroundings.

James drew a parallel to the gridiron after the Lakers' 123-100 win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.

"I'm a natural-born wide receiver and he's a natural-born quarterback, so it fits perfectly," he told reporters of his chemistry with Dončić. "I've been running the floor and running lanes pretty much my whole life. He's been throwing great passes pretty much his whole life, so it's not hard to get a rhythm when it comes to that."

Dončić had by far his best game as a Laker against Denver. He shot 10-of-22 from the floor for 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

James was the beneficiary for a few of those dimes. Dončić hit LeBron perfectly in stride with an outlet pass in the first quarter and found him later in the half for an alley-oop.

While nobody was reaching for the panic button in Southern California, Dončić had left a little something to be desired with the start to his tenure in purple in gold. Entering Saturday, Los Angeles was 1-2 with him in the lineup, and he had averaged 14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

An adjustment period was inevitable for the 25-year-old, though, when he had missed more than a month with a calf strain.

LeBron is one of the most ball-dominant players in NBA history, too. His career usage rate (31.5 percent) is the fifth-highest ever.

But he succinctly explained why he and Dončić can potentially mesh so well. Whether he's running the floor on the fast break or cutting to the basket in a half-court set, James knows full well that Luka possesses the vision to find him when he's open.

It will take time for this duo to achieve its perfect form, and that may not even happen this season. But there have been enough moments already to show how dynamic the Lakers offense can be down the road.
