Cavs' Garland: Donovan Mitchell and I Had 'Grown Man Conversations' amid Trade Rumors
Much of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland's time together has been marred by constant trade rumors, especially last year before Mitchell signed an extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now, the two are thriving together and make up arguably the best backcourt in the NBA, silencing any talk of splitting them up. Garland opened up about what it was like to constantly hear his and Mitchell's names in trade rumors, saying that they had to work to figure out how to complement each other best.
"Conversations, bro. It's some grown man conversations that's been taken on," Garland told Clutch Points' Tomer Azarly. "And just watching a lot of film together. Trying to figure out where we can help each other out on the court, trying to find different spots where we can both be aggressive in. I mean, it's just taken a turn from the last couple years where people saying that we couldn't play together. And now everybody is saying that we're the best backcourt in the league."
Mitchell is putting up 23.9 points, 4.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game while Garland, who just made his second All-Star game, is averaging 21.6 points and 6.7 assists per game.
Behind Mitchell and Garland, the Cavs are sitting comfortably in the driver's seat in the Eastern Conference. At 44-10, Cleveland has the best record in the East and is tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the NBA.
This time last year, it seemed like Mitchell and Garland's time together could be short. Now, the two are just getting started.
