Video: Austin Reaves Talks Ejection in Lakers' Shock Loss to Mark Williams, Hornets
Austin Reaves' frustration got the best of him, leading to an ejection in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' 100-97 loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Reaves explained he vented his frustration about a no-call to the official three times in quick succession and the last one was "the charm of getting that second tech."
The situation occurred late in the third quarter when Reaves thought he was fouled by Jusuf Nurkić. The Lakers guard was very animated in shouting at the official, who issued the first technical. He kept yelling at him to receive a second tech and an early shower.
Reaves' ejection was a turning point in the game. The Lakers were leading 65-57 at the time he was tossed, but they were outscored 12-1 in the rest of the period to fall behind by three points.
The Hornets held on for the win when LeBron James' three-point attempt with one second remaining hit off the rim.
Reaves, who was averaging 25.3 points in six games prior to the All-Star break, finished with just eight points on 3-of-9 shooting against the Hornets. It was his second-lowest scoring game of the season.
The Lakers have now lost consecutive games for the first time since dropping three straight from Jan. 5-13. They will look to end this modest skid on Thursday night against the Portland Trail Blazers.
