Aaron Gordon: Vince Carter Is the NBA Slam Dunk 'GOAT,' But 'My 4 Dunks Were Better'

Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon is known as arguably the best dunker never to win an NBA Slam Dunk Contest, but he's confident he would've been able to hold his own against the greatest slam dunk artist of all time.

While speaking to FanDuel TV's Michelle Beadle on Run It Back, Gordon paid homage to Basketball Hall of Famer Vince Carter but also declared that he would've bested Carter's performance from the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest.

"Respectfully, like Vince Carter is the GOAT, you know what I mean? But, I think if you put my four dunks up against Vince Carter’s four dunks, objectively I think my four dunks were better," Gordon said.

In 2016, Gordon participated in the most exciting Slam Dunk Contest of all time against Zach LaVine, who is now a member of the Sacramento Kings. Gordon wowed with his first four dunks, three of which utilized the Orlando Magic mascot Stuff the Magic Dragon. However, LaVine matched him each time, and after two tiebreakers, Gordon finished as the runner-up.

Gordon had his chance for redemption in 2020, but he came up one point short in the overtime round against Derrick Jones Jr. After finishing as the runner-up for the second time, Gordon declared that he was done with the Slam Dunk Contest.

However, it appears that the 29-year-old has the itch to put on a show once again. After Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant called out both him and LaVine for a potential showdown in the 2026 Slam Dunk Contest, Gordon responded, "I still got some s--t," suggesting that he would be open to participating in the event one more time.
