Video: Bucks' Damian Lillard Retires from NBA 3-Point Contest; Won Event Twice
Damian Lillard is calling it a career as it pertains to the NBA 3-Point Contest.
The Milwaukee Bucks star announced that he is retiring from the event after an early exit at All-Star Weekend on Saturday.
"Came up short tonight," he said. "Congrats to Tyler [Herro]. It's all good. This will be my last one. I'm retiring. Officially retiring."
Lillard won back-to-back 3-Point Contests in 2023 and 2024 and had the chance to make history on Saturday as one of just three players to three-peat in the event. Ultimately, it wasn't in the cards for Lillard as he was eliminated in the first round.
Miami Heat star Tyler Herro went on to win the event for the first time.
While Lillard didn't get the result he hoped for on Saturday, he's undoubtedly one of the best shooters in NBA history. Along with his two wins in the 3-Point Contest, Lillard is fourth all-time on the NBA's three-pointers made list, just behind Stephen Curry, James Harden and Ray Allen.
He likely has a few more years left in the NBA, meaning he could climb further up the list before retiring.
With the 3-Point Contest now behind him, Lillard's focus shifts to the All-Star Game on Sunday where he'll look to win his second consecutive MVP. After that, it's back to the regular season.
Lillard is putting up 25.8 points and 7.5 assists, leading the Bucks to a 29-24 record heading into the second half of the season.
