In recent years, the All-Star game has favored players like Curry who make the living from behind the three-point line. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Curry attempting some shots from well behind the arc to get the fans excited.
But Curry, a grizzled veteran with not much left to prove, could have a worthy opponent for the award in Wembanyama. The second-year player and reigning Rookie of the Year is making his first All-Star Game appearance this year and will be looking to turn some heads.
Gilgeous-Alexander, making his third All-Star appearance, is having a career year and is a frontrunner for league MVP. While his focus is likely on a championship as the Thunder sit atop the Western Conference standings, adding an All-Star Game MVP trophy to his resume would make his season even better.
Edwards wouldn't be a surprising MVP either, as the three-time All-Star is both as competitive as they come and exciting to watch. Edwards is suiting up for Team Kenny along with several other young stars and will likely be bringing his best effort against NBA veterans.
Last year's All-Star Game MVP, Damian Lillard, was an early exit in Saturday night's three-point contest, so he'll be looking to redeem himself on Sunday.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was initially among the favorites to win the MVP award. However, he announced on Sunday that he won't play due to to foot/ankle discomfort. James has won the award three times, putting him one behind NBA legends Kobe Bryant and Bob Pettit for the most All-Star Game MVPs in history..
No matter who wins this year's All-Star Game MVP, it's bound to be an exciting event. The new format means the three teams plus the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge will battle it out in a tournament for a prize of $1.8 million split between members of the winning team.
The All-Star Game tips off at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday on TNT. The first game will be Team Kenny (Kenny's Young Stars) vs. Team Chuck (Chuck's Global Stars) followed by Team Shaq (Shaq's OGs) vs. Team Candace (Candace's Rising Stars).
