Tyler Herro Wins 2025 NBA 3-Point Contest, Excites Fans as Dame Falls Short of 3-Peat

Taylyn Hadley Feb 15, 2025

Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat claimed victory in the 2025 Starry 3-Point Contest on Night 2 of NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, California.

Herro claimed victory in his first-ever contest, becoming the fifth player in Miami Heat history to win the 3-point title while preventing Milwaukee's Damian Lillard from securing a historic three-peat.

The 25-year-old's victory thrilled fans, while others were stunned that Lillard couldn't pull off the win.

The first round saw some low scores, with only two players surpassing the 20-point mark. Hield tied the most points in a round with 31 that was previously set by teammate Stephen Curry.

Round 1 Results:

Buddy Hield (31), Darius Garland (24) and Tyler Herro (19) advanced to Round 2 as Jalen Brunson (18), Damian Lillard (18), Cade Cunningham (16), Cameron Johnson (14) and Norman Powell (14) fell short of the cut.

Lillard's bid for a three-peat fell short, which would have made him just the third player in NBA history to do so. Despite his confidence heading into the event, he fell short in Round 1.

“The three-point shot … has made my career great, because I think I'm one of the best at it. It was that way when I stepped foot into the league,” Lillard told reporters. "Shooters shoot. That’s what it comes down to … I think it’s pretty simple. I know that I’m a great shooter and I’m a consistent shooter."

Round 2 Results:

Herro (24) emerged victorious, with Hield (23) and Garland (19) finishing in second and third, respectively.

Herro lit up the three-point line, improving his previous score by five points and putting the pressure on Garland and Hield to respond. Garland struggled as the clock worked against him by the time he reached his money rack in the corner, ultimately falling short and leaving the door open for Hield.

Hield entered his final rack with 15 points and needed a strong finish. He knocked down four of his five money balls, coming up just short of overtaking Herro for the win.

All-Star excitement continues as the 74th NBA All-Star Game tips off on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET / 5:20 p.m. PT.
