Anthony Edwards Doesn't See Himself as Future Face of NBA: 'They've Got Wemby'
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards doesn't view himself as the next face of the NBA.
Edwards explained to reporters on Saturday that he believes San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama fits the criteria instead.
"That’s what they’ve got Wemby for," Edwards said.

The Timberwolves guard has still established himself as one of the Association's top young stars, earning his third consecutive All-Star nod this season.
Edwards is in the midst of a strong individual 2024-25 campaign, as his average of 27.5 points per game ranks No. 5 in the NBA. He's expanded his shooting range, hitting a career-high 41.4 percent of his triples despite attempting a career-high 10.1 attempts from behind the arc on a nightly basis.
That hasn't stopped him from remaining one of the league's most physical finishers at the rim.
The development of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft hasn't stalled, as his scoring average has increased in each year of his career. Edwards has also experienced playoff success, helping lead the Timberwolves to a Western Conference Finals appearance last season.
At 23 years old, it's also fair to assume that the best is yet to come for Edwards.
While the humility from the Georgia product is commendable, Wembanyama's swift rise to stardom makes it easy to view him as the future face of the NBA.
The 21-year-old took home 2023-24 Rookie of the Year honors before improving across the board in his sophomore season. Wembanyama has averaged 24.3 points and 11.0 rebounds to go along with a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game on 47.6/35.2/83.6 shooting splits.
His popularity has also grown, ranking No. 5 on the NBA's top-selling jerseys list for the first half of the 2024-25 season based on NBAStore.com sales. Edwards sat just one spot lower at No. 6.
Both players have already cemented superstar status as their budding careers progress, but it remains to be seen if either—or perhaps both—will emerge as the next face of the NBA.
