NFL Draft 2025 Rumors: Giants GM Joe Schoen 'Made it Obvious' QB Was His Focus
It's not a secret that the New York Giants need a quarterback, but some teams are convinced they've tipped their hand they intend to prioritize the position in the 2025 NFL draft.
Per ESPN's Jordan Raanan, one NFL executive said Giants general manager Joe Schoen "made it obvious" at the Senior Bowl that finding a quarterback was his primary focus.
Team owner John Mara told reporters during his end-of-season press conference on Jan. 7 that finding a franchise quarterback is "obviously the number one issue for us going into this offseason."

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap ๐ธ

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
The Giants don't currently have a quarterback under contract for next season, so they will almost certainly have to draft one and sign a veteran free agent.
Schoen's priority, though, has to be adding a starter for the 2025 campaign. The Giants are currently in an awkward position to potentially land either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward in the draft.
New York owns the No. 3 overall pick, behind the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. Both of those teams also need to add a quarterback, but it's unclear if they would do it at the top of the draft or in free agency.
Titans president of football operations Chad Brinkerย told reporters last month they "won't pass on a generational talent" in the draft. It's unclear if anyone fits that bill for Brinker and the Titans, but there aren't many analysts who would use that term to describe any of the quarterbacks in this class.
The Browns would need to add a cheap option at quarterback because Deshaun Watson is still making $46 million in base salary with a $72.9 million cap hit next season.
Schoen can ensure the Giants land the quarterback they want in the draft by trading up with the Titans for the No. 1 pick. It's easier said than done because Tennessee has to be willing to move, but a jump of two spots probably wouldn't come at a huge cost.
Raanan put the price of a trade as the No. 3 pick and a couple of day two picks. It's not an insignificant cost for a team that has so many roster holes to fill, but if the end result is getting a franchise quarterback, no one will care.
The Giants used three different starting quarterbacks in 2024. Daniel Jones was their leading passer with 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games prior to being released in November.
Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito combined to start the final seven games after Jones' departure. The Giants finished 3-14, setting a franchise record for losses in a single season.
