Celtics' Brad Stevens Says He's Not a Candidate for Indiana HC Job After Woodson Exit
Brad Stevens is not heading back to the collegiate ranks.
Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 reported that the Boston Celtics president of basketball operations is "not a candidate" for the head coach position at the University of Indiana. This comes as current Indiana head coach Mike Woodson is set to step down following the 2024-25 season.
“I thoroughly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I get to work with every day,” Stevens said, per Goodman.
Stevens is a native of Indiana and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He then joined Butler University and eventually rose to become the head coach of the program.
He compiled an overall record of 166-49 as the head coach of the Bulldogs while leading the program to five NCAA Tournament appearances, three conference titles and one trip to the NCAA Championship Game. He was poached by the Celtics following the 2012-13 season.
Stevens then served as the Celtics coach from 2013-14 to 2020-21 before rising to his current role. During his time with the franchise, the Celtics have made the playoffs 10 times, reached the NBA Finals twice and won the 2023-24 NBA Championship.
While heading to Indiana could allow Stevens to continue his coaching career, it would take him away from a Celtics team that could have a dynastic run and that he is the architect of.
