LeBron James Reflects on NBA Era Alongside Curry, Durant: 'Coming to an End Soon'
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James acknowledged Friday that there may not be many more opportunities for him, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant to all share the court together.
Speaking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin (h/t ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk), James said: "There ain't going to be that many times left. So you take it all in and you don't take it for granted. It's coming to an end soon."
Not only will James, Curry and Durant all play in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, but they will be teammates on Shaquille O'Neal's squad.
James is the oldest player in the NBA at 40, but Curry and Durant aren't too far behind at 36.
LeBron has never been on the same team as Curry or Durant in the NBA aside from All-Star teams, but Curry and Durant teamed up with the Warriors from 2016 to 2019, reaching the NBA Finals three times and winning two titles.
The Warriors' two championships during the stretch were clinched with wins over James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, and Durant was named NBA Finals MVP both times.
James and Curry met in the NBA Finals four straight times from 2015 to 2018, and while the Warriors won three of them, LeBron did bring the Cavs their first championship in 2016, and he was named NBA Finals MVP in the process.
The most high-profile example of James, Curry and Durant all teaming up came this past summer when they were part of Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
A strong argument can be made for LeBron, Steph and KD being Team USA's three best players in the tournament despite their advancing age, as they were the driving force behind the United States winning a fifth straight gold medal in Olympic men's basketball.
The excellent play of all three stars at the Olympics has carried over to the 2024-25 NBA season, as they continue to add to their legacy as future first-ballot Hall of Famers.
LeBron is an All-Star for the 21st time to go along with his four NBA MVP Awards, four NBA titles and four NBA Finals MVP Awards, while Curry is an 11-time All-Star, four-time NBA champ, two-time NBA MVP and one-time NBA Finals MVP, and Durant is a 15-time All-Star, two-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP and one-time NBA MVP.
It may be a long time before another trio of players as dominant and accomplished takes over the NBA the way James, Curry and Durant have for the past 15 years or so.
Given that the Warriors and Suns are 10th and 11th, respectively, in the Western Conference right now, there is no guarantee James, Curry and/or Durant will be facing each other in significant games this season or in the future.
Even so, there is something special about them stepping on the court together as teammates or opponents, and NBA fans will undoubtedly continue to appreciate them and their greatness for as long as they can.
