Cavs' Tristan Thompson Calls Out Raptors HC Darko Rajakovic After 'No Class' Comments
Tristan Thompson didn't waste much time responding to critical comments from Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajaković.
The Cleveland Cavaliers big man took to social media Thursday and said Toronto's decision to full-court press in the final minute was one reason he threw down a dunk when the game was already decided in the final seconds.
Ian Harrison of the Associated Press shared details of the entire ordeal, noting Thompson dunked with four seconds remaining of Cleveland's 131-108 victory in Wednesday's contest. Toronto fans booed, while Raptors players Scottie Barnes and Jamal Shead let Thompson know they were upset with his decision.
"I think what Tristan did there was no class and disrespectful," Rajaković said, per Harrison. "I'm not going to stand for that, for sure. I love when my team stands up for themselves. That was no class."
Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson even said, "I'm not sure what he was thinking. Sometimes, though, you're playing the game and you just have a reaction. I know with Tristan, there's no bad intention there. I think just sometimes you're playing and the goal of the game is to score. Unfortunate."
Thompson played just four minutes off the bench and finished with four points and one rebound.
He doesn't see much playing time in this season's rotation and took advantage of a rare opportunity to score for someone averaging a meager 1.7 points a night. The Raptors weren't happy with how he did so, and the Cavaliers big man didn't just simply let the comments go.
The two teams don't play each other again this season after Cleveland swept all four matchups, so there won't be another opportunity for more on-court disagreements in the aftermath of Rajaković's comments and Thompson's social media post.
But they will surely come up again the next time Thompson plays in Toronto.
