Lakers' Updated Depth Chart, Salary Cap After Alex Len Contract, Christian Wood Exit
The Los Angeles Lakers added some frontcourt depth in the form of Alex Len on Tuesday.
In the move to sign Len, the Lakers also waived forward Christian Wood, who was putting up 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 17.4 minutes per contest for Los Angeles.
Len, a 12-year veteran, had been with the Sacramento Kings since 2021-22. He's averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds, playing just 7.2 minutes per game. Now with the Lakers, he'll look to see the court more often.
With the signing of the 31-year-old, here's a look at Los Angeles' updated depth chart.
Los Angeles Lakers Depth Chart
- PG: Luka Dončić, Gabe Vincent
- SG: Austin Reaves, Dalton Knecht
- SF: Rui Hachimura, Jordan Goodwin
- PF: LeBron James, Jarred Vanderbilt
- C: Jaxson Hayes, Alex Len
Before signing Len and dropping Wood, the Lakers were $59.230 million over the cap, per Spotrac. Wood has a cap hit of $3.036 million while Len's cap hit is only $743,829, meaning Los Angeles is now $56.938 million over the cap.
The Lakers were desperate to add a big man after trading Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Dončić. Los Angeles was seemingly on the way to getting a big man when it traded for Charlotte Hornets' center Mark Williams, but that trade was rescinded due to a failed physical.
Now the Lakers have at least some additional depth in the front court, even if Len isn't quite the player Williams is.
Los Angeles has been playing well recently and will look to continue its positive momentum as Dončić gets integrated into the lineup. The Lakers are currently 32-19, sitting in fourth place in the Western Conference.
