Men's Recap

Rafael Nadal must really hate Wimbledon at this point.

For the fourth straight year, the struggling superstar was knocked out of the tournament by a player ranked No. 100 or above, per the Guardian. This year, it was exciting upstart Dustin Brown who did him in, beating the Spaniard 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Nadal simply can't get out of the early rounds in recent tournaments at Wimbledon, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Brown beat Nadal with a big serve, excellent play at the net and a gunslinger's mentality. None of that was lost on Nadal after the match.

Indeed, Brown's play at the net was the difference, per Howard Bryant of ESPN:

"You can't make mistakes against a player like him, with that big serve and nothing to lose," Nadal said after the match, per ESPN's coverage. "Without having a rhythm at all—I didn't hit three balls in a row the same way—when you need to make that big shot, you don't have the confidence to do it."

Nadal also conceded that he simply made too many mistakes during the match. Part of the disappointment for Nadal was that he felt prepared coming into Wimbledon.

"In 2012 and 2013, I wasn't ready to compete well [due to injuries]. This year, I was ready to play. I was playing well before the tournament."

That disappointment rippled throughout Nadal's camp, per Bryant:

The rest of the top seeds in action fared much better, however, as No. 2 Roger Federer, No. 3 Andy Murray, No. 6 Tomas Berdych, No. 13 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and No. 18 Gael Monfils all won in straight sets, while No. 12 Gilles Simon needed only four sets to move on.

The day's longest match, meanwhile, saw No. 23 Ivo Karlovic survive Alexandr Dolgopolov, 7-5 3-6 4-6 7-6(4), 11-13. His prize for that marathon victory will be a meeting with Tsonga.

Friday's action should be just as eventful as Thursday's proved to be, with No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 4 Stan Wawrinka, No. 9 Marin Cilic (facing No. 17 John Isner) and No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov, among others, all in action.

Women's Recap

Another day, another major upset in the women's draw.

This time, it was No. 8 Ekaterina Makarova who fell at the hands of Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-2, 7-5. The upset was par for the course at this tournament, per Brad Gilbert of ESPN:

Makarova wasn't alone among the seeded players to fall, as No. 17 Elina Svitolina, No. 25 Alize Cornet and No. 26 Svetlana Kuznetsova all fell.

Plenty of top contenders managed to progress, however, as No. 2 Petra Kvitova, No. 5 Caroline Wozniacki, No. 10 Angelique Kerber, No. 13 Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 21 Madison Keys all moved on.

Of course, winning in the women's game at the moment feels like the right to lose to No. 1 Serena Williams, who will be in action on Friday. Williams has won the last two Grand Slams and has looked unstoppable and powerful thus far at Wimbledon.

Her sister, Venus, will also be in action on Friday, and should they both win, they'll face each other in the fourth round. Talk about storylines. Serena would be the heavy favorite in that contest, but facing her older sister could end up being her biggest test of the tournament, at least mentally. Should her bid to secure the season Grand Slam be halted by her own sister, well, you can imagine how interesting that family get-together would be.

Also in action will be No. 4 Maria Sharapova, No. 6 Lucie Safarova and No. 23 Victoria Azarenka
