Adam WellsJul 1, 2015

Free agent linebacker Brandon Spikes was sentenced Wednesday following a traffic accident in early June.

According to WCVB 5 in Boston, Spikes was found guilty on three charges:

"

Spikes was found guilty of three counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury and was sentenced to one year probation plus a $1,000 fine and surcharge. He also lost his license for a year.

Several other charges were continued without a finding, including charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.

Spikes was issued a citation by Massachusetts State Police on June 12 for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, operating a vehicle negligently, speeding and failing to stay within marked lines.

That citation came days after the New England Patriots, who signed the 27-year-old in May after he played last season in Buffalo, released him after his car was found abandoned on a highway in Massachusetts.

Per the WCVB report, the crash caused minor injuries to a husband, his wife and their 12-year-old son and that the driver of Spikes' vehicle "called an emergency assistance service claiming to have struck a deer."

With Spikes pleading guilty, it will be interesting to see if he's able to find another NFL job. He's been a productive backup in the league over five years, spending his first four seasons with the Patriots before joining the Bills in 2014.
