Argentina vs. Paraguay: Date, Time, Live Stream for 2015 Copa America Semi-Final

Rory MarsdenJun 30, 2015

Most predictions ahead of the 2015 Copa America saw pre-tournament favourites Argentina meeting old rivals Brazil in the semi-finals.

As it is, Gerardo Martino's side will actually face Paraguay, after Ramon Diaz's men deservedly overcame the Selecao on penalties in the last eight.

Paraguay arguably pose more of a threat to Argentina's Copa hopes than Brazil would have done, as they are a side that refuses to be beaten, and Dunga's underwhelming, Neymar-less outfit looked poor in the quarter-finals.

This is not Paraguay and Argentina's first meeting in the Chile tournament. The pair met for their opening group game, when the Albiceleste could only manage a 2-2 draw.

On that occasion, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero scored in a fine first-half performance, and Argentina looked to be cruising to victory.

However, Paraguay came out in the second half, Nelson Valdez and Lucas Barrios both netted and the supposedly lesser side finished the 90 minutes on top.

Such is the ability of the Paraguayans to respond when they go down. They came back from a goal down in the group against Uruguay also, and they were similarly responsive against Brazil.

In fact, the draw is very much their speciality, per beIN Sports:

Argentina may take a draw in the semi-finals, as they would seemingly have the edge going into a penalty shootout given their personnel.

The likes of Messi, Carlos Tevez, Aguero and Angel Di Maria have huge experience at the top level, and indeed, Argentina scored all five of their penalties as they beat Colombia in a shootout in the quarter-finals.

However, that would be putting a huge amount down to chance, and Argentina must look to finish the job in the 90 minutes, or it will be Paraguay who take heart.

There is no doubting the gulf in class between the two sides. Paraguay have nowhere near the quality that Argentina boast, nor indeed the depth.

The sides are separated by 82 places in FIFA's world rankings, and that is fairly representative of the gap between the teams.

However, Diaz has managed to build a team of players who play for each other and are remarkably effective in grinding out results. And they are still improving.

Argentina need their big players to step up. They have not won the Copa since 1993, and after last year's World Cup final defeat, it is time that this star team won something.

Aguero is their best outlet up front, and Messi can create a chance out of nothing. The huge abundance of talent is there for all to see, but they have not yet jelled in this tournament.

A scrappy win over Paraguay would, of course, be enough, but it would not bode well ahead of the final.

Argentina have the best squad in the competition, and it is time they proved as much against Paraguay, or else they will once again fall short in a major competition.
