Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
Our latest golazo ranking features superb strikes from three different continents, including a lovely free-kick routine from MLS, some stunning acrobatics from Norway and an emphatic finish in the Copa America from 12 yards.
Comparatively speaking, the weekend was a little light on world-class goals, but that does not diminish the magnificent strikes that appear here.

6. Ezequiel Garay (Argentina) vs. Colombia
1 of 6It's rare that a penalty kick makes our golazo ranking—and some might say a 12-yard dead ball can never be classed as a "worldie"—but we made an exception for Ezequiel Garay's wonderful effort in Argentina's Copa America shootout victory over Colombia on Friday evening.
The Albicelestes' first three penalties were all excellent, but their second from Garay was a textbook powerful strike into the top-left corner that no keeper in the world could have reached.
It was a superb finish, particularly for a defender. With spot-kick skills like that in their ranks, it's little wonder Argentina only called Carlos Tevez into action for the seventh round of the shootout!
5. Eric Ayuk Mbu (Philadelphia Union) vs. Montreal Impact
2 of 6Montreal Impact visited Pennsylvania on Saturday evening, where they held the Philadelphia Union to a 2-2 draw.
Philly opened the scoring in emphatic style in the eighth minute when Cameroonian midfielder Eric Ayuk Mbu rifled a shot across goal and into the top-left corner for his second goal of the season.
4. Olmes Garcia (Real Salt Lake) vs. Columbus Crew
3 of 6Philadelphia and Montreal weren't the only MLS sides to play out a 2-2 draw on Saturday; Real Salt Lake and Columbus Crew also shared four goals between them in Utah.
RSL took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark through one of the most cleverly worked free-kick routines you are likely to see in a while.
The series of passes was clearly taken straight from a training-ground drill that allowed Colombian forward Olmes Garcia to tap in at the far post.
3. Andrei Blejdea (NK Domzale U21) vs. Karpaty Lviv U21
4 of 6Our friends at 101 Great Goals uncovered a gem from the Slovenian U21 tie between NK Domzale and Karpaty Lviv.
The former emerged as 3-0 winners, with the clear highlight being the fantastic scissor-kick finish from Andrei Blejdea that was assisted from a sublime rabona cross.
2. Ernest Asante (Stabaek) vs. Stromsgodset

The Norwegian Tippeligaen played its 14th round of matches over the weekend, with title-chasing Stabaek edging Stromsgodset 3-2 in Baerum.
The best of the five goals came from Ghanaian forward Ernest Asante, who read a Yassine El Ghanassy through-ball perfectly to send a classy volleyed lob over the keeper.
1. Matthias Vilhjalmsson (Start) vs. Aalesund

Elsewhere in the Tippeligaen, the brilliantly named Start hosted Aalesund.
Start got off to the perfect start when Icelandic striker Matthias Vilhjalmsson found the net in the second minute with an absolutely stunning overhead kick.
Spurred by this moment of beauty, the Kristiansand side went on to win 3-1.
