Argentina 0, Colombia 0 (Argentina advances on PKs 5-4)
Argentina are through to the semifinals with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Colombia after a goalless draw could not decide this quarterfinal tilt in the first 90 minutes.
After the first three attempts from both sides were successful, a miss from Luis Muriel gave Argentina an advantage, but in their final attempt, Lucas Biglia's shot went wide.
Three consecutive misses, two from Colombia and one more from Argentina, gave Carlos Tevez the opportunity for the winner. He converted his chance to send Colombia packing. Planet Futbol had a look at the winner:
Colombia struggled to find their way into the match as Argentina controlled possession to start. A corner in the seventh minute presented Argentina with a great chance, but Marcos Rojo lifted his header over the bar.
Argentina had a penalty shout in the 14th minute when Nicolas Otamendi tried to find his way to the end of a free-kick but was pulled down by Jeison Murillo in the box, but the official allowed play to continue.
David Ospina saved Colombia in the 26th minute with a pair of brilliant saves. Gol Caracol showed Ospina's leg save from a Sergio Aguero effort and another just seconds later, when Lionel Messi tried to head home the rebound:
It was utter domination from Argentina as the chances kept piling up. An effort from Biglia after a wonderful Argentina move was sent inches wide of the post in the 41st minute.
Ospina was at it again in the 43rd minute when a free-kick sent Javier Pastore through on goal, but the keeper was able to beat the midfielder and send the threat away with his hand.
Argentina domination continued in the second half and Ospina was found running for his life one more time. A ball delivered from Messi was destined for Angel Di Maria, but Ospina managed to race out and clear the area.
A cagey match from the start, six yellow cards were issued in the first half. In the second, tempers flared further when Pablo Zabaleta put his hands on the throat of Santiago Arias without the official noticing. La Doce caught the moment:

Ever Banega came on in the 77th minute and almost gave Argentina the lead two minutes later when his effort just skimmed the crossbar. Ospina then saved an effort from Otamendi that went off the inside of the post and cleared off the line by Camilo Zuniga in the 81st.
Another Argentina chance was cleared off the line in the 88th minute by Murillo just a split second before Ezequiel Lavezzi arrived to tap in an easy goal.
Argentina will face the winner of the Brazil, Paraguay match on Saturday, 5:30 p.m. ET. With all the domination and all the opportunities, Argentina just managed to escape from Colombia. They might not be so lucky if they are not able to convert their chances in the semifinals. Especially if Brazil are waiting for them. But Argentina have plenty of firepower to right their offense in time for that.
