Shawn Robinson to TCU: Horned Frogs Land 5-Star QB Prospect

Alec NathanJun 26, 2015

The TCU Horned Frogs received a major boost Friday afternoon when 5-star quarterback prospect Shawn Robinson verbally committed to the Big 12 power for the 2017 season, according to Rivals.com's Taylor Gaspar.

"Since my first visit to TCU I knew in the back of my head it was the place for me," Robinson said, according to 247Sports' Ryan Bartow. "Just the relationship I built with the staff and the family atmosphere."

Robinson, who hails from Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, is entering his junior season after throwing for 2,799 yards and 33 touchdowns while tossing just five interceptions and completing 60 percent of his passes as a sophomore.

Robinson also ran for an absurd 1,416 yards and 17 scores during his sophomore season, which is why he's ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class, according to 247Sports

Robinson clocks in at No. 10 overall on the 2017 composite recruiting list, with pro-style prospect Hunter Johnson (No. 9 overall) of Brownsburg, Indiana, being the only signal-caller who ranks higher.

Robinson's high school coach, John Walsh, noted that the news did not surprise him, per the Denton Record-Chronicle's Adam Boedeker: "He's the son of a Texas high school football coach. The Big 12 is kind of our conference. We all have some kind of allegiance to the Big 12. His dad has been in the Fort Worth area as a head coach. Sonny Cumbie has done an unbelievable job of recruiting him. I think I saw this coming about six months ago."

While Robinson had offers from virtually every one of the nation's big programs—including Alabama, Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas and USC—he'll head to a Horned Frogs team that finished last season ranked No. 3 overall in the AP Top 25 with an 11-1 record after narrowly missing out on the first-ever College Football Playoff.
