According to Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com, this year's roster features 23 players currently on the top 100 prospects list.
Giolito, who is making his second consecutive appearance in the Futures Game, told Mayo that being selected to play in the game is a special honor.
"It definitely means a whole lot," said Giolito. "I had a ton of fun last year. I'm looking forward to going again and hopefully performing a little better in the game than I did last year."
Last year, Giolito gave up a home run to Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez that tied the game at two. The 2012 first-round pick is currently pitching in High-A with a 3.71 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.
Notable players on the World roster include two Boston Red Sox in outfielder Manuel Margot, who was recently promoted to Double-A, and third baseman Rafael Devers, who has 23 extra-base hits as an 18-year-old in Low-A.
This will mark the 17th year MLB has given prospects center stage during All-Star weekend. The United States holds a 10-6 edge in the series thus far, including five consecutive wins.
With prospects becoming a huge part of the game, the Futures Game gives fans a chance to see some of the minor league's best go against each other. It's served as a springboard to future MLB success for players like Joey Gallo (2014) and Mike Trout (2009), among many others in the past 16 years.
