Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler Demolish SI Writer for Anti-Women's Sports Comments

Dan CarsonJun 25, 2015

Earlier this week, Sports Illustrated NFL writer Andy Benoit dragged a buffalo wing over the screen of his smartphone and typed out a message claiming women's sports aren't worth watching.

This is a #HotTake for a supposed sports media professional, and it rankled a significant number of non-Cro-Magnon people who like women and enjoy watching them play sports.

Among the incredulous were Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler, who put Benoit to the sword during their "Really!?!" segment of Wednesday night's Late Night with Seth Meyers.

It's a beautiful takedown of Benoit's ham-fisted message, pointing out Serena Williams' dominance, the beauty of the women's World Cup and how a sports magazine that profits from annual boob-peddling is fittingly tone deaf when it comes to female athletes.

Benoit has since apologized for his remarks, saying they were "ignorant and extreme."

Sometimes you get defensive and express the opinions of an early hunter-gatherer. Guess it happens.

Dan is on Twitter, not putting his hooves in his mouth.
