Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Rory MarsdenJun 26, 2015

Boca Juniors have confirmed the signing of Juventus striker Carlos Tevez, bringing to a close a two-year spell in Turin in which he won two Serie A titles and reached the Champions League final.

Boca's president Daniel Angelici confirmed the news on ESPN Argentina on Friday, per the Associated Press via the Guardian. Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sports also reported the move.

Tevez's reputation has only been enhanced by his two successful seasons with Juve, but the 31-year-old is clearly ready to embark on another chapter in his storied career.

The Italian champions paid tribute to the forward as they announced his departure on their official website.

His exit from the Old Lady has been inevitable for some time, despite one year still remaining on his contract, and Juve have clearly been preparing for life without him by bringing in new strikers Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

Indeed, Juve midfielder Claudio Marchisio bade farewell to Tevez before the former Manchester City man's departure had even been confirmed, per Adam Digby of FourFourTwo:

While it isn't surprising that Tevez has left Juventus, it is a bit of a surprise that he is returning to Argentina at the age of 31. Though he has long maintained that he wanted to finish his career with Boca, it's surprising that Tevez—who still has a few years of top-flight football left—has decided to leave European football at his age.

Nonetheless, Boca should benefit hugely from the addition of Tevez, who still possesses the great finishing ability that has made him a success at Juve, City and Manchester United.

He recently made a return to the Argentina national side under new manager Gerardo Martino and recently represented his country at the Copa America in Chile.

Tevez will surely be missed by Juventus' fans, players and management alike, and his replacements have big shoes to fill. But at 31, Tevez still has a big role to play for Boca Juniors and Argentina, and his ability to change games will not wane for some time yet.
