Sanchez has impressed football fans in England since his move to Arsenal last summer and is a national hero in Chile, with 84 caps for his country already at the age of 26.
Uruguay, for their part, were also upset by a separate incident that saw Edinson Cavani receive a red card for a slap on Gonzalo Jara, which was provoked by the latter poking his fingers into Cavani's bottom.
