Argentina vs. Jamaica: Date, Time, Live Stream and 2015 Copa America Preview

Rory MarsdenJun 19, 2015

Argentina face arguably their easiest match so far of the Copa America 2015 on Saturday when they take on Jamaica in their final Group B game in Vina del Mar.

A narrow 1-0 win over Uruguay following their opening 2-2 draw with Paraguay sees Argentina top of the group, a position they can maintain with a decent victory over the invited Reggae Boyz.

Jamaica were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to Paraguay last time out after a clanger from goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr, but Lionel Messi et al will surely prove too much for them.

In footballing terms, the 2015 Copa America has been low on the spectacular thus far. There have been moments of magic but not as many as may have been expected given the attacking pedigree on show.

The talent-packed Argentines scraped a 1-0 win in their last match against Uruguay that was notable mainly for its tetchy nature.

Coach Gerardo Martino will have to watch the Jamaica match from the stands having been sent off in the clash with the Celeste, per NDTVSports.

Martino admitted after the match that he has not been entirely satisfied with his side's performances thus far in the tournament, per Argentinian football writer Roy Nemer:

However, against Jamaica, Argentina have the opportunity to find some form and ensure an easy passage through to the last 16.

Should they top Group B, they will play one of the third-placed qualifiers in the quarter-finals. A convincing win on Saturday could not only get them top spot but give them some momentum heading into the knockout rounds.

There is a huge gulf between the two sides in terms of class and in their respective FIFA rankings—Jamaica are 65th to Argentina's third.

While the Jamaican challenge is not to be taken lightly—they have lost only narrowly to both Uruguay and Paraguay so far in the tournament—anything but a convincing victory for Argentina would be an embarrassment.

The side they put out against Uruguay was packed with top-quality stars, the likes of Messi, Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero and Javier Pastore some of the best attackers in the world.

On the contrary, Jamaica's attacking threat comes from Leyton Orient's Jobi McAnuff and Houston Dynamo's Giles Barnes, both decent players but some way off the likes of Messi and Aguero.

Worryingly for Jamaica, Aguero looked to have found his touch against Uruguay as he scored a brilliant near-post header that proved to be the winner, per Bleacher Report UK:

Argentina often look more like a group of great individuals rather than a great team, and they will need to find more coherence if they are going to live up to their hype as pre-tournament favourites.

Against Jamaica, they have the opportunity to work on their game and build some momentum for the knockout stages, and anything but a win would be wholly unacceptable.

A Jamaica victory would be one of the great Copa upsets, but it seems highly unlikely.
