James Becomes 6th Player to Score 5,000 Career Playoff Points
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James scored his 5,000th career playoff point during Tuesday's series-ending Game 6 loss to the Golden State Warriors, joining Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan as the only players to reach that milestone, per NBA.com/stats.
James entered the game with 4,988 career playoff points, leaving him 12 shy of the milestone and making him a lock to reach it during Tuesday's game.
He hit and passed the mark on a three-point shot with two minutes, three seconds remaining in the second quarter, with guard Matthew Dellavedova getting an assist on the play.
James would eventually finish with 32 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists and two steals, but he also turned the ball over six times as the Cavaliers lost 105-97 on their home court.
Although the result was obviously less than desirable for the game's preeminent superstar, he still made history by becoming the first player to lead an NBA Finals series in points (35.8), rebounds (13.2) and assists (8.8) per game, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Per NBA History, The 30-year-old James is also the youngest player to reach 5,000 career playoff points, and it's seemingly only a matter of time before he surpasses Jordan (5,987 points) as the league's all-time leading playoff scorer.
