Venezuela 1, Colombia 0

Despite boasting just 41 percent of possession and failing to generate nearly as many chances as their superior adversary, Venezuela managed to come out on top thanks to a 60th-minute header by Jose Salomon Rondon.
Matteo Bonetti of beIN Sports noted how Rondon set the tone for Venezuela's attack, outmatching the likes of Cristian Zapata and Jeison Murillo on a regular basis:
Although Colombia did all they could to knot the score down the stretch and salvage a point, La Vinotinto held their ground and managed to preserve a clean sheet. A stout back line helped reroute many of Colombia's shots, as only two of their 15 attempts were on target.
The loss has to be even more disappointing for the heavy favorites in light of the following fact from ESPN Stats & Info:
Dominating possession is some consolation Colombia can take from this match, yet their inability to execute offensively is a red flag. Their core of forwards headlined by striker Radamel Falcao must step up to climb up the table.
This is certainly not how Colombia envisioned starting their 2015 Copa America run. With Brazil in the same group, it's going to be an uphill battle from here for Los Cafeteros to climb out of their early deficit. Squaring off with Brazil in their next match Wednesday will certainly be a stiff test.
Venezuela have an extra day of rest before they take on Peru on Thursday. They did achieve the desired result and an historic one at that, but coach Noel Sanvicente must make sure his side don't become complacent because Peru put up a stellar fight against Brazil in their opener.
Brazil 2, Peru 1

Just when it appeared as though Brazil would settle for a draw, their attack had one more brilliant run in it. Superstar captain Neymar drew the attention of almost half of Peru's 11 men on the field and threaded a pass to Douglas Costa, who beat goalkeeper Pedro Gallese for the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute.
What set up the suspense was a bit less savory for head coach Dunga's winning team. A shocking defensive collapse by Brazil allowed Peru to get on the board in the third minute on Christian Cuevas' goal.
BeIN Sports captured footage of the sequence:
Just two minutes later, Neymar indeed ensured his side's deficit didn't endure for long, responding with a stupendous equaliser. Neymar would bang a shot off the crossbar in the second half, though, putting the Selecao in danger of gaining just one point.
ESPN FC's James Martin enjoyed the description of Neymar's blast that almost gave Brazil the winner at approximately the 52-minute mark:
Other than the iron-struck shot by Neymar and the heroics put on by himself and Costa in extra time, there was quite a lull in the action following the excitement of the first five minutes.
Brazil came out flat in Sunday's match, and even though they'll be favored against Colombia in their next fixture, Neymar and Co. must set the tone early to avoid an unnecessary, immediate deficit.
Devastating as this defeat has to be for Peru, who went bold in their tactics and style to bid for the full three points late, they must get up for Venezuela. There's a chance Brazil can drop Colombia to two losses, which would be a big boon to Peru's chances of advancing past the group stage.
